A new study has ranked UK cities according to their live music scenes

Central London places top of the list, followed by Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow

Getty Nick Levine, 5th July 2016 A new study has ranked different towns and cities in the UK according to the popularity of their live music scenes.
The study, conducted by leading entertainment listings site Ents24, places central London at the top of the list, followed by Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow.
Brighton and Wolverhampton both appear in the Top Ten, though somewhat surprisingly several major cities, including Edinburgh, Sheffield and Nottingham, do not. Check out the Top Ten below:
1. London
2. Manchester
3. Bristol
4. Glasgow
5. Leeds
6. Cardiff
7. Birmingham
8. Brighton
9. Liverpool
10. Wolverhampton

Ents 24 explains in a blog post that it lists "more forthcoming events in the UK than anyone else" and has "details of more than 22,000 active venues listed". This, the company says, "gives us a great insight into which gigs – and areas – are the most popular".
The study points out that so-called "satellite towns" – those located in close proximity to major cities – often struggle to build live music scenes of their own. For example, the study says that Luton, a town located close to London which has a population of over 200,000, "doesn't have a single music venue on the national circuit".
