Chris Rock was not impressed by Batman v Superman
The American comedian had a few choice words for the idea that it should not have been a fair fight
Getty Tom Mendelsohn, 18th April 2016 Chris Rock has become the latest entertainment voice to hit out at the recent and much-maligned Superman v Batman movie.
Sitting on a panel at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City with the Star Trek, Star Wars and Lost director JJ Abrams, Rock's antipathy towards a movie which has already played very poorly with critics was plain to see. But where many people criticised the film for Zack Snyder's poor directing abilities, or for its sometimes hard-to-understand plot, Rock's beef sits squarely with its portrayal of Superman's power relative to Batman's.
“Did you see that Superman Batman shit?” he asked Abrams, not mincing his words. “What the fuck was that? I can't say anything, they weren't going to cast me anyway.”
“Superman can't fight a guy that drives a car!” Rock said, according to Vulture. “He gets a flat. Like he's going to fight Superman. Needs AAA [the American Automobile Association], but yeah, he can fight Superman. He's got jumper cables, and he's going to fight Superman.”
Rock, 51, was echoing one of the major complaints about Batman v Superman, which has a rating of just 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, one of the major review aggregators on the internet. Namely, that Superman has godlike powers, and Batman, who has a car with guns on it, shouldn't have come close to taking him down.
Rock also had time to ask Abrams about another superhero franchise flop: The Fantastic 4.
“Could you direct the Fantastic Four?” Rock asked, following last year's very poorly received reboot. “I love the Fantastic Four and they keep fucking it up! Like, God damn it. It's the Fantastic Four.”
