Disney confirms ‘Jungle Book’ and 'Mary Poppins' sequels

The film studio is also planning a follow-up to ‘Maleficent’

Press Disney has confirmed that it will release a sequel to its live-action version of Jungle Book.
The film studio announced earlier today that director Jon Favreau will return for the second movie alongside writer Justin Marks.
Disney’s remake of the animated classic, based on Rudyard Kipling's children's book, features a number of Hollywood stars voicing CGI animals. The only human cast member to appear in the film is Neel Sethi, who plays Mowgli.
The movie, which is voiced by Idris Elba, Ben Kingsley, Scarlett Johnson among others, shot to the top of the UK box office taking over £21m in its first two weeks of release.

The studio revealed several more projects that are in the pipeline during today's announcement including a Maleficent sequel staring Angelina Jolie.
Currently in the works are a Mary Poppins sequel, starring Emily Blunt, and 101 Dalmatians spin-off, Cruella.
A Tim Burton-directed Dumbo and a Tinker Bell project starring Reese Witherspoon are also in development.
Disney did not confirm specific release dates for the films but said that it plans to release fairy tale adaptions on July 28 next year, April 6 2018 and December 20, 2019.
