'Everybody Loves Raymond' star Doris Roberts dies at 90

Actress died overnight in her sleep on Sunday (April 17)

Getty Luke Morgan Britton, 19th April 2016 Doris Roberts, best known for playing Marie Barone in US sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, has passed away aged 90.
BBC News reports that a family spokesperson confirmed that the actress died overnight in her sleep on Sunday (April 17) in Los Angeles. Roberts had been "healthy and active" prior to her death.
Roberts starred in Everybody Loves Raymond from 1996–2005, picking up four Emmy Awards for her role.
The actress, whose career began in 1952, also appeared in films like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and starred in TV shows Law & Order, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and Melissa & Joey.
Everybody Loves Raymond co-star Ray Romano paid tribute to Roberts, saying she "had an energy and a spirit that amazed me".
"She never stopped," he told Entertainment Tonight. "Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."
