George R.R. Martin has an idea for a 'Game of Thrones' spinoff series

The author is open to the idea of basing a spinoff around his novellas

HBO/Press George R.R. Martin has floated the idea of a possible spinoff series to Game of Thrones.
The author of fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, which the popular HBO show is based on, suggested that more of his works could be adapted for the small screen.
“There is certainly no lack of material,” Martin told Entertainment Weekly. “Every episode of The Naked City – one of the television shows I watched as a kid – ended with a voice-over: ‘There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.’ There are eight million stories in Westeros as well … and even more in Essos and the lands beyond. A whole world full of stories, waiting to be told… if indeed HBO is interested. The most natural follow-up would be an adaptation of my Dunk & Egg stories.”

Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg are a series of novellas that are set in the same universe as Game of Thrones but take place 90 years earlier. The story follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, the future commander of the Kingsguard, and his squire, Prince Aegon "Egg" Targaryen, the future king Westeros. Three novellas have been published in the series so far, with Martin planning to write more.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo recently said that there are no plans for a Game of Thrones spinoff, but "if that were to happen it would have to come from [Benioff and Weiss] really feeling something, or [author George R.R. Martin] really feeling that it was the right thing to do."
