'Harry Potter' star makes debut as a cage fighter
Josh Herdman played Gregory Goyle in the film franchise
Warner Bros Luke Morgan Britton, 26th April 2016 Harry Potter actor Josh Herdman has launched a new career as a cage fighter, making his debut in a fight at the weekend.
Herdman played Gregory Goyle, a minion of Draco Malfoy, in each instalment from the movie franchise between 2001 to 2011. After Harry Potter, Herdman starred in the 2012 British thriller Piggy.
However, he has now swapped acting for "raw, exciting and unpredictable" MMA fighting.
He spoke to Addicted MMA about his career change: "I’ve been training traditional Japanese jujitsu for nearly five years and hold a shodan black belt. It’s raw, exciting and unpredictable. I find it more interesting than boxing although I appreciate the beauty and art in boxing. It also made sense to move onto MMA because of my jujitsu training."
Herdman beat Polish opponent Janusz Walachowski in his first MMA fight at the City Pavillion in Romford, east London over the weekend. He later shared a picture of his triumph via Twitter. See below.
Speaking about a possible return to acting, Hardman told Addicted MMA: "I haven’t fallen out of love with it, I still have an agent and still go for auditions. It’s just a little bit like playing the lottery for a living."
Meanwhile, a new trailer for Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them has been revealed online ahead of the film's release later this year.
