Ice Cube: 'Donald Trump Is What Americans Love'
Ice Cube thinks Donald Trump's popularity lies in the GOP presidential candidate seemingly living the "American Dream."
In a video interview with Bloomberg, who asked the rapper and actor what his point of view is on Donald Trump, Ice Cube said Trump's appeal comes from those who crave the mogul's status. "Donald Trump is what Americans love. Donald Trump is what Americans aspire to be," Ice Cube said. "Rich, powerful, do what you want to do, say what you want to say, be how you want to be. That's kind of been like the American Dream."
The rapper added that part of Trump's draw is his acting like a top dog. "So, he looks like a boss to everybody, and Americans love to have a boss. So, you know, that's his appeal," he said.
However, Ice Cube was quick to add that Trump lacks understanding across socio-economic lines. "Do I think he's going to do anything to help poor people or people that's struggling? No," the rapper said. "Because, you know, he's a rich white guy. How does he – how can he relate?"
While Ice Cube pointed out in the clip that being rich doesn't make a person "bad," he added, "I'm just saying, how can he relate to the small guy?"
Bloomberg closed by asking about Trump's past as one of the leaders of the birther movement, when Trump questioned Obama's legitimacy as president claiming incorrectly that he was born in Kenya. "He sounded crazy to me then," Ice Cube said. "I can see raising the question, but once you get the answer, man, move on."
Ice Cube's been fairly vocal of late. He recently responded to Gene Simmons' negative comments about N.W.A and other hip-hop artists being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "Everybody's got their own opinions and Gene, he's an OG in the game, but he's just wrong on this," Ice Cube said in an interview with Howard Stern. The two artists also sparred on Twitter.
