Kanye West may be sued by his wife’s ex Ray J over ‘Famous’ video
R&B singer says ‘There’s too many times Kanye has done this’
Press John Earls, 6th July 2016 Kanye West may be sued over his ‘Famous’ video by his wife Kim Kardashian-West’s ex-boyfriend Ray J.
R&B singer J is one of many celebrities whose waxworks appear naked with West and his wife in the video. The likes of Rihanna, Taylor Swift, George W Bush, Anna Wintour, Donald Trump and Caitlyn Jenner are also parodied in the 10-minute video, which is believed to be directed by West.
J, real name Ray Norwood, was previously namechecked in the lyrics of ‘High Lights’ on West’s current album ‘The Life Of Pablo’. Referring to his relationship with Kardashian-West, West says: “Me and Ray J would probably be friends if we wasn’t in love with the same bitch. You might have it first, but I’m rich though.”
J’s manager David Weintraub told Heat: “We’re talking about potentially doing something. There’s too many times Kanye has done this. You can’t really continue to use people’s likenesses without either compensation or clearance.”
Before ‘High Lights’ release, West had claimed that he had cleared its references to J with the singer’s sister, fellow R&B vocalist Brandy.
But Weintraub said: “The ‘Famous’ video is like the fourth time in six months Kanye has done this. There were discussions, but it’s getting old, so our legal team is working out what we want to do with everything.”
When the video was first unveiled in June, West said he expected to be sued, tweeting: "Can somebody sue me already? I'll wait," a tweet he's since deleted.
