New Indiana Jones film will be continuation of ‘The Crystal Skull’

The fifth film is set to follow on from the plot of its critically panned predecessor

Producer Frank Marshall has confirmed that the as-yet-untitled fifth Jones instalment will be a continuation of the plot of the 2008 movie rather than a prequel as previously rumoured. Screenwriter David Koepp, who worked on the last film, has been hired to write the script.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was released 19 years after the previous film in the franchise. Its science fiction B-movie inspired storyline didn’t go down overly well with critics, it holds the worst rating of all four films on reviews aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes.

Marshall also put an end to speculation of a younger replacement for Harrison Ford. There have been rumours that Disney and Lucasfilm had Chris Pratt in mind to lead a franchise reboot, and Pratt later said that starring as Indiana Jones would be an "awesome opportunity".
However, Marshall has insisted that no one but Ford will take on the role.
"It’s all about the story. I think both in the Jason Bourne series and on Indiana Jones, we are not going to do the Bond thing," he stated. "We think those characters are iconic, and those are the only actors who can play that."
Indiana Jones 5 is set for release 19 July, 2019.
