Prince's autopsy completed – but cause of death may not be known for weeks

Medical examiners are awaiting results from a toxicology test

Press Tom Mendelsohn, 22nd April 2016 Medical examiners in Minnesota trying to find out how Prince died on Thursday have finished their autopsy – but we may not know the results for days or even weeks.
Investigators reportedly finished the four-hour procedure this evening and are due to release the musician's body back to his family later on, but have said that it will take time for the toxicology test they carried out to reach any conclusions.
A representative for the Midwest medical examiner's office in Minnesota told TMZ that the authorities were still collecting the singer's medical records, as well as a broader family medical history, in order to finalise their investigation into Prince's sudden death aged just 57 at his studios in Chanhassen, on the outskirts of Minneapolis.

A full picture of what killed Prince would "likely take weeks", according to a statement released to the press.
"As part of a complete exam, relevant information regarding Mr Nelson’s medical and social history will be gathered. Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration," said a previous release.
He is reported to have been found unresponsive in a lift, and though paramedics attempted CPR at the scene, they were unable to revive him, according to information released by the local sheriff's office. He was pronounced dead at 10:07am, less than half an hour after emergency services first received a call.
