'Star Wars' actor Oscar Isacc compares Episode VIII to an independent movie
Director Rian Johnson also confirms BB-8 will return
Getty Damian Jones, 19th April 2016 Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor Oscar Isaac has compared Episode VIII to an independent movie.
The film, which is being directed by Rian Johnson, who made Looper, is due out in December 2017.
Isacc, who plays Poe Dameron, told The LA Times: “Rian is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the Star Wars universe. For me, it’s so fun getting to explore different things that I wouldn’t have expected in this universe. In some ways it feels like we’re making an independent film. Certain things we get to play with – this kind of intimacy that we get to find – it’s special. It’s been really fun.”
Johnson himself has also confirmed Dameron’s sidekick BB-8 will also be coming back in response to a concerned fan’s question about the droid’s status. He wrote:
Man, you'd have to admire my cojones if he wasn't. https://t.co/yy1ynjhT0N

Actress Daisy Ridley recently said that the next film will be "darker" than Episode VII.
Following speculation that new character Jyn Erso, who will make her debut in spin-off film Rogue One, could hold the key to Rey's parenthood, Ridley also added: "I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mum.
"I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is."
Episode VIII will be preceded by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story this December. The film will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla).
