Playing in Toronto on March 26th in what would prove to be one of his last shows on his Piano and a Microphone tour, Prince treated fans to a number of covers including a tribute to the late David Bowie by playing the star’s iconic hit Heroes.
With The Purple One himself now having passed away recently, this moment has taken on an odd significance to us here at Music Feeds HQ. Seeing such a great artist as Prince still indulging in a little fandom here and there reminds us all that while he was a supernatural genius, on another level he was just a huge music fan like all of us.
Performing at Toronto’s Sony Centre For The Performing Arts, his two sets – which featured hits from across his expansive discography – had more than just the one cover, with Prince also covering Joni Mitchell’s A Case of You, Vince Guaraldi’s Linus & Lucy, and Bob Marley’s Waiting in Vain. Clearly here was a man with a broad taste and appreciation for great music.
While he may be gone and we will never get to seem him play music again (let’s face it, if heaven does exist Prince is probably going to his own VIP section up there) we can at least relive this magic moment via some grainy fan footage.
Check out the footage of Prince covering Heroes and Waiting in Vain here below.
